Solar-Powered @ClearChannelUK Bus Shelter
Whilst the solar panel here is not powering any digital screens, Clear Channel UK’s first solar-powered advertising bus shelter on Waterloo Bridge in London is interesting.
Four solar panels have been installed onto Transport for London’s (TfL) bus stop, converting sunlight into battery power and allowing Clear Channel to light up the courtesy light and advertising panel when it’s dark using renewable energy.
Dave Huckerby, Development Director at Clear Channel UK, said: “We are proud of our commitment to sustainable development – it is truly at the front of our minds whenever we develop new products and technologies. This is an exciting launch for us and for London and we look forward to developing the product as we introduce the technology in other communities.”
Leon Daniels, TfL’s Managing Director of Surface Transport, said: “As part of the Year of the Bus we are not only celebrating what London’s extensive bus network offers to passengers now, but also what the future may hold. This technology trial demonstrates both innovation and sustainability and I hope it will be the start of something that could spread across our network.”
Adrian Dennis, Sales and Marketing Director at Zeta Specialist Lighting (who supplied the specially manufactured solar LED lighting kit) said “This solar-powered LED lighting solution for the bus shelter provides increased comfort and safety for passengers at a significantly lower environmental impact. We are excited to be part of bringing new lighting technologies to the capital.”
The solar-powered bus shelter is equipped with an energy management system that knows how much power it has generated. This allows it to automatically dim the lights if power is running low or in daylight.
