Long Island Railroad Chooses @Hiperwall

When the Long Island Railroad, a commuter rail system in New York, began a program to upgrade its security system, it contracted with IntraLogic Solutions, Inc. to develop a state-of-the-art system that included cameras, fire alarms and burglar alarms—all tied together into a centralized video wall command center.

IntraLogic Solutions, a systems integrator, selected Hiperwall to provide software as the core of the new system – this software enabled Long Island Railroad’s video camera feeds and data to be displayed on one video wall, providing visuals and data at a glance – as a result of choosing Hiperwall, Long Island Railroad was able to significantly upgrade the capabilities of its system while avoiding purchasing new hardware.

“As we began sorting through all the requirements in developing a solution, Long Island Railroad realized a need for a centralized command center to give them the capability to display all or part of every video camera feed. They wanted the ability to size or re-size the video feeds on the video wall system to examine specific data,” said IntraLogic Solutions, Inc. CEO, Lee Mandel.

“The Hiperwall system gives them tremendous flexibility in assessing weather-related scenarios, emergency situations, and infrastructure impact with real-time information from the transportation fusion center as they monitor hundreds of cameras used to watch every line, every station, and every aspect of the rail system.”

“Long Island Railroad fell in love with Hiperwall immediately and it is looking to incorporate the software into future projects,” said Mandel. “Hiperwall was fully integrated into the GIS technology operating system to provide the Long Island Railroad a custom solution to consolidate hundreds of video camera feeds that will help improve the customer experience, enhance safety, and increase the ability of emergency responders to quickly evaluate and make decisions during emergency situations.” Mandel continued, “IntraLogic Solutions has done work with several video wall vendors but found Hiperwall to be the most cost effective, both initially and long term. We found Hiperwall’s flexibility to be a core advantage that would enable a whole-concept solution for Long Island Railroad to improve monitoring and, therefore, customer safety.”

About the MTA Long Island Railroad

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America’s largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.1 million people in the 5,000-square-mile area fanning out from New York City through Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut.
It drives the New York regional economy by opening up countless job opportunities for millions – jobs that are miles from home are easy to get to with our subways, buses, and commuter trains. And after work, the network enables them to get to leisure activities: music, theater, cultural events, sports, and shopping more varied than anywhere in the country.

MTA subways, buses, and railroads provide 2.62 billion trips each year to New Yorkers – the equivalent of about one in every three users of mass transit in the United States and two-thirds of the nation’s rail riders. MTA bridges and tunnels carry more than 280 million vehicles a year – more than any bridge and tunnel authority in the nation.
