#dse2015 Featuring Seminars To Meet All Needs

Gail Chiasson, North American Editor

No matter what part of the digital signage industry in which you work, chances are that you’ll find at least one seminar that interests you at the educational day of #dse2015.

We’ve looked at two that are among the many being offered, one titled ‘Getting Past the Pilot’ designed specifically for Systems Integrators & Instllers, and another with the long title of ‘Leveraging Visual Communications Across Multiple Platforms: Overcoming Communications Challenges’ designed specifically for end-user professionals.

Many, if not most, digital signage projects start with a pilot program. A pilot ensures that the digital signage network operates as it is expected and provides a period to debug the network for the full rollout. The hour-long ‘Getting Past the Pilot’ session will provide a step-by-step process for making that initial small pilot installation a success before taking your client’s network to the next level, as well as an understanding of some of the new technologies available for observation and measurement of actual reactions to digital signage – and how these tools can be used to determine the strengths or weaknesses of your pilot deployment.

Mike White and Robert White, respectively president and manager, convergent technology, Multi-Media Solutions, from Knoxville, Tennessee, will be co-presenting this session.

Jeff Porter, a DSE Advisory Board member and CEO of Porter Digital Signage, Downington, Pennsylvania, says, “The key components that ensure a successful transition from pilot to rollout include: Set goals that include what you are going to measure, understand your business model, get executive buy-in, and ensure your plan and budget include the cost of ongoing content management.”

We expect that attendees at this session will get a lot of tips from this session.

The ‘Leveraging Visual Communications Across Multiple Platforms: Overcoming Communications Challenges’ is also an hour-long session.

Visual communications is quickly becoming the norm for distributing timely content throughout the corporate enterprise, enabling organizations to take advantage of digital signage to deliver both internal and external communications in compelling ways. This interactive session will feature a case study overview on Schreiber Foods’ digital network deployment, presented by John Gillespie, communications manager, before providing the opportunity for attendees to work together to fashion a strategy to support multiple platform applications. That should be interesting.

On this topic, Kimberly Dwyer, DSE Advisory Board member and corporate communications account manager, Nationwide Children’s HospitalColumbus, Ohio, , says, “We have a large digital signage system that includes networks of similar sign types, such as interactive, customer-facing, and staff-facing. The key items we focus on when designing multimedia content are sound (where it can be accommodated), languages for specific audiences, and the length of the playlist.”

On the same topic, Thomas Kunka, DSE Advisory Board Member and senior application specialist, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, says, “To get video content to work as expected across multiple platforms requires content designers to work within specific technical constraints and/or clearly articulate the functional requirements necessary for their content to be rendered properly, and have those requirements be implemented in a timely manner into the production environment.”

Registration for ‘Getting Past the Pilot’ or Leveraging Visual Communications Across Multiple Platforms: Overcoming Communications Challenges’, or any of DSE 2015 educational conference seminars – sponsored by BroadSign International and eligible for Digital Signage Expert Group (DSEG) certification renewal credits – is available here.

#dse2015, co-located with the Digital Content Show and Innovator Zone, is scheduled for March 10-13, 2015, with access to the Exhibit Hall March 11 & 12 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.
