Having heard that Asif Khan, founder and president of the Location-based Marketing Association, speak in Montreal a couple of years ago, I was interested to hear a couple of months ago that he would be the breakfast keynote speaker at #dse2015.
However, I was a liitle disappointed that the keynote has now become a Thought Leadership Panel Keynote Presentation where Khan will simply be moderator of a panel, 1) because I know that he’s a good speaker with enough knowledge on his own to speak for a solid hour or more and 2) because, on the whole, we at DailyDOOH just don’t like panels. Why? Because we find that single speakers usually impart some good solid knowledge that people tend to learn from, while panelists usually tend to exchange ideas between themselves and the audiences usually get little to remember. Oh, yes, and 3) we don’t believe that panelists should largely be drawn from the sponsors nor from those that consistently are the first to put their hands up to take over the mike. (We don’t think these are among that group, though.)
In fact, I’m hoping that this keynote panel will prove different from the norm and those in the audience – usually big for the opening DSE session – will not simply be entertained but will gain interesting information that they will find useful.
The topic will be ‘Big Data – Small Screen Insights’, and the panel will explore the expanding impact of digital in the out-of-home environment, including the roles of digital signage, smart phones and wearables. In so doing, the panelists will touch on recent case studies and emerging measurement techniques in the rapidly expanding DOOH arena.
Moderated by Khan, panelists will include:
- Ryan Craver, senior vice-president strategy and emerging brands, Lamour Inc.;
- Franny Karkosak, director, media and digital marketing, TGI Fridays;
- Sheri Nikishin, director of information technology, MGM Resorts International;
- Stephanie Sollers, director of ad sales, xAd.
It’s an interesting mix, and we think this panel will be different from the usual. The Keynote Breakfast will run 7:30-9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Registration for the DSE Breakfast Keynote Thought Leadership panel.
