Parabit Systems Inc., located in Roosevelt, New York, was showing off its new virtual mannequin† in #dse2015‘s New Products section.
Asked what was different from those already out on the market, Georgia Reid, marketing administrator, said that Parabit’s avatar uses custom animation rather than a live actor – although it does offer a standard ‘Vicky’ or ‘Victor’ for those who want, which can be bought or rented.
“We are a manufacturer, so can make it with custom graphics,“ said Reid.
The company will be showing it at the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NFAFCU) 48th Annual Conference and Solutions Expo in Montreal in June, among other shows.
Parabit has been around since 1995, and offers a wide variety of technology products, including many types of kiosks geared for wayfinding, security, visitor management and telephone changing as well as digital signage and animation design.
†Did you know that it was our very own editor-in-chief Adrian Cotterill who first coined the phrase ‘virtual mannequin’ back in November 2008, using it to describe the use of projection technology to create the illusion of a free standing, real person or character – typically a masked image, using rear projection and an acrylic coated with window projection film such as 3M Vikuiti.

I did not know that Adrian coined the term,
I did know I coined the term Talking Flat Lady, or the extended term Talking Flat Lady Most Sane People Want To Sucker-Punch, or TFLMSPWTS-P for short.
