Dan Levi Forms Levi Media Advisory
Gail Chiasson, North American Editor
We had a good chat this weekend with Dan Levi, who, until the end of March, 2015, is chief marketing officer, at Captivate Network, when he then leaves to operate his own consulting company, Levi Media Advisory.
Levi Media Consultancy is a retained and project-based firm specializing in the intersection of media, advertising, technology and marketing.
“I’ve been working for the past 15 years with companies who hired me to either turn their business around or help them grow,” says Levi. “I was able to do that. I realized that I’ve always been hired to fix things, so thought why not work like that for myself. I’ve been thinking about this since January, and Marc Kidd, CEO of Captivate – who was a great addition to the company and whom I very much respect – has been very supportive of the idea.”
Levi says, “I have a broad business knowledge and many good connections across all media sectors, and am looking to not only deal with the Digital Out-of-Home industry, although my recent experience has been in that area. Out-of-Home has been a closed loop network, and today it’s all about interconnectivity with all media, and technology with programmatic and mobile and more. All media are coming together because of data.
“While much of my early work is focused on the DOOH/Digital Place-Based sector, helping network operators with their marketing, sales strategies and approaches to emerging technology, I’m particularly interested in helping all media. Agencies are looking to use programmatic buying for all media, and that’s one area where I can help.”
While Levi is wrapping up his time as a full-time employee of Captivate, that company is one of his firm’s first clients.
“That allows me to continue to help drive Captivate’s ongoing embrace of digital media and technology innovations, while continuing to work with Kidd, who is doing a fantastic job at Captivate,” he says.
Another client already on board is the Digital Place-based Advertising Association, where he is helping it roadmap ways its members can take advantage of programmatic buying channels.
“It’s important that companies can take advantage of programmatic and respond to the requests of agencies without taking dollars off the table,” he says.
While Levi will work from a New York base, he is available to work with clients across North America, putting to work his experience. Among his previous positions were those of senior vice-president digital media and strategic partnerships at Zoom Media and Marketing; chief marketing officer, Internet advertising division, Monster Worldwide; and senior vice-president of marketing, World Wrestling Entertainment. He started his career working with an advertising agency and then MTV. He has recently been chief marketing officer at Captivate Network.
“I know a lot of good people and have a great network to talk to and to whom I can offer my services,” Levi says. “I’m a little nervous launching out on my own, but I’m confident that I have a lot I can offer.”
Levi says that his current title at Captivate will not be filled but that Scott Marden as senior vice-president marketing, research and client development, a Captivate employee since 2009 and promoted to that position in January, has everything well in hand.
