Planar Systems unveiled the new Planar LookThru OLED transparent display, a breakthrough product that creates a new category for see-through displays last week during New York Digital Signage Week.
Planar exhibited this new LookThru OLED transparent display at the XLabs event. The LookThru is a transparent display that uses Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) while eliminating the need for a backlight or enclosure, overcoming one of the major hurdles to transparent LCD technology. Planar is now taking pre-orders for the LookThru display with mass production beginning in February 2016. The standard model pricing starts at $14,995.00.
“Transparent display holds extraordinary promise for those passionate about creating experiences that connect people to place,” says Clive Roux, CEO of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design. “As a sponsor of the Clear Concept Awards, we are joining with the multidisciplinary community of professionals who employ cutting-edge technologies to make places more relevant and meaningful for those who use them.”
“We strive to create harmony in the physical and digital layers of our projects,” says Brian James, design director at downstream. “With this in mind, we have seen possibilities for transparent display in corporate briefing centers and branded retail environments for years, but the technology has always lagged the vision. This new transparent OLED display technology, pioneered by Planar, is what we have been waiting for.”
