Pointless Software From @NanoLumens

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Atlanta, Georgia-based NanoLumens has launched AWARE, a cloud-based platform that claims to leverage the power of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, Google Android OS, and Amazon Web Services to deliver real-time remote diagnostics, media playing, and optimized software applications in one system accessible through one portal from anywhere in the world.

nanolumens_logoWhilst we are not aware of this issue, Nate Remmes, NanoLumens vice-president of corporate development, says that AWARE addresses the growing industry need for a “simpler solution that eliminates hardware within a complex ecosystem while allowing third party developers to create the next generation apps that will make displays more engaging, useful, and accountable”.

Nate Remmes makes a big claim, in saying “NanoLumens is doing for digital signage what Apple did for the smartphone. AWARE marks the debut of the industry’s first complete eco-system that instantly makes displays a more compelling investment by addressing some of the major challenges we have faced as an industry — accountability, reliability, and simplicity.”

NanoLumens say that AWARE represents a strategic move to differentiate itself from virtually all of its LED competitors BUT fail to realise that every LED and Display Manufacturer of note in the last 12 months has bought-in or acquired a Digital Signage Solution that has been years and years in the making.

Vishnu Rao, NanoLumens director of software services and platforms who ONLY joined in March 2016 said “AWARE has a one-of-kind IoT product design built for the information display world. It brings together high-powered cutting-edge processing, the most popular operating platform, best-in-class cloud services, remote access, mobility sensors, content media services, and a handpicked third party app marketplace into an intelligent visualization portal.

“With AWARE’s architecture, display interfaces across the world can now quickly deploy interactive and connected experiences that were extremely difficult to deploy before, due to the fragmented nature of currently available technology.”

AWARE combines hardware, services, and software into one integrated solution that can be purchased and embedded in a display or as a stand-alone add-on to an existing display – core applications available at launch include built-in media, weather, sports, news, HTML 5, social media, and audience measurement.

NanoLumens claim they, and all of this are agnostic, and that they are continuing to look for premier partners throughout the industry.  The press release noted that today’s applications have been developed through NanoLumens’s partnerships with Admobilize, Gimbal, Navori, and Screenfeed.

It is VERY hard to believe any of the hype around the press release when NanoLumen’s management can try and claim that AWARE’s API-based remote diagnostic capabilities are the MOST ROBUST ever developed for the industry.

“We built our system on APIs because we want to make sure that we are adaptable to existing AV eco-systems while giving our AV integrator and service providers a wholly useful tool,”
says Remmes. “We understand that our partners have a greater opportunity for choice in LED and we want to make sure we are providing them with a solution that is easier to manage, easier to deploy, and provides more value to the end user.”

Despite Nate Remmes saying that “AWARE is a win-win for the entire industry — customers, developers, marketers, and consumers. Everyone benefits from the development of this platform.” it’s hard for us, as true experts in this field, to see it as anything other than a cynical and desperate marketing ploy.

There are hundreds of digital signage software platforms out there in the market, the best ones have been developed over 10 or more years.  The industry does not need any more and it does not need any ridiculous claims of Apple’ness, robustness and changing the freakin’ world!

On July 21, 2016 NanoLumens are holding a webinar at 14:00 EDT for anyone interested in learning more about the AWARE product.

It is a rather strong statement they made and I appreciate your reaction, however, it’s difficult to react until I’ve seen the product. If you have seen it, first hand, your statement has credence. If not, we both should should wait until we can see what it really can do.before it’s vilified.

    Really?

I sure hope you guys build a screen large enough to show your inflated egos.
