We have been the first to criticise Scala for what we believed was a lack of innovation – celebrating a twenty plus year history should have yielded much, much more than a Windows based digital signage system!
Anyway at InfoComm this week Scala are unveiling a number of partners with whom we can honestly say they have innovated.
- IAdea Corporation has worked closely with Scala to develop firmware that allows Scala Content Manager and Ad Manager platforms to connect with compatible video appliances, including ViewSonic’s RISC-based media player.
- FrameMedia Inc. will be showcasing its low-cost (and supposedly easy-to-use) digital signage based on wireless photo frame technology – WiFi-enabled digital photo frame support even includes devices manufactured by the likes of Kodak, Samsung, D-Link and ViewSonic.
- Lastly Equus Computer Systems Inc. will be exhibiting its commercial-grade hardware solutions (together, Scala and Equus Computer Systems will support end users seeking to use built-to-order hardware to meet their digital signage needs) and MediaVue will showcase its fanless and solid-state PCs as we suggested might be the case last week.

As much as I rate the systems & get along with Dave (of Mediavue), I would not call his systems “ultra low-cost PCs” as mentioned in the linked article.
