It’s likely the space for the player/controller, It seems to be part of the Amsreen package.

the LED ticker thing fights, visually, with the LCD screen … kinda defies logic … and could this unit not have been, for the same footprint, a larger LCD in portrait???

absolutely … and the goofy ticker thing, if really needed for some odd reason, could be done as a frame within the LCD playback and save some money … though I’d be the last to advocate for it

Looks cheap and tacky, something you would find at a fun fair next to the “disco twists”! Guys, keep it simple – “content is king”!
