#CES2021 1,000 Virtual Exhibits, 150,000 Visitors

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

We all know that CES is huge, last year’s event saw 171,268 attendees and 4,400 exhibitors sprawled across 2.9 million net square feet of space.

Instead of cancelling #CES2021, the organisers, the Consumer Technology Association, have been working hard at pushing the virtual event with the ‘all-digital’ moniker, as if this was somehow a good thing, rather than something that was 100% necessary (should the event not take place at all).

The organisers have already admitted that the online-only event will be smaller, with some 1,000 exhibitors but what I find hard to believe, is their belief, that the event will event attract 150,000 attendees.

Gary Shapiro, CEO, Consumer Technology Association said in an interview with Venturebeat that more than 100,000 people are already registered.

Remember that registrations does not equate to attendees. Note also that we have typically seen large tech trade shows typically lose more than half of their ‘attendees’ when they switched to online only.
