Last week, the Reddit community behind the current GameStop story, started to buy billboards and not by any method, that the out of home industry might typically want you to think was the ‘norm’ and the only way to do so.
Advertising agencies, media planners and media specialists did not get a look in on this particular phenomenon. Over the weekend we did a detailed search on Reddit which proved that individual members there, quickly figured out how to buy billboard inventory online.
Billboard creative with the tagline ‘we like the stock’ has appeared all over North America, including in Times Square. This one below is in Austin, Tx.
How have the reddit community done this? Well, our research shows that they have been using Blip. You can see below, in the ‘preview’ that a Reddit user posted, there is a ‘Blip Watermark’ on the preview screen before the creative is submitted.
Blip is a fabulous, fast growing, online, no contract digital billboard advertising business for small and medium-sized businesses.
By our estimates, over a 1,000+ Reddit members have been using Blip to buy billboard space since late last week.
