#IFA2021 Cancelled Due to #Covid19
In 2019 IFA at the Messe Berlin lasted a week, attracted more than 1800 exhibitors and garnered 250,000 visitors. In 2020 #COVID19 made its mark on the event and instead, #IFA2020 saw a Korean sized hole in the exhibition space and attendees overall were greeted with a hugely scaled down three day event that only allowed 1,000 attendees each to various sections of the event. The event was also closed to the public.
This year, the industry won’t even have that. The organisers announced Wednesday that #IFA2021 was cancelled in its entirety.
It seems that the rapid emergence of (new) #COVID19 variants in South East Asia become a major concern ahead of the annual event and many news outlets have reported that all of these factors made exhibitors who were set to participate in Berlin think twice.
In a press release, IFA said “Ultimately, several key global health metrics did not move as fast in the right direction as had been hoped for. This in turn is adding uncertainty for the companies that were committed or interested in coming to Berlin, as well as media and visitors”.
Whilst this is incredibly disappointing, ultimately in this instance, the organisers have probably made the right decision for society as a whole.
