Junkee Media has announced it has agreed terms with Facebook on the renewal of its innovative daily news show, The Junkee Takeaway, for a third season.

The three-year deal will see Junkee produce 240 episodes of The Junkee Takeaway for Facebook Watch each year, significantly expanding Junkee Media’s reach and impact, and cementing its place as Australia’s number one youth publisher.

Rob Stott, Junkee Media’s Editorial Director, said “I’m so pleased that Facebook has committed to renewing its partnership with Junkee Media. This agreement will allow Junkee to make significant investments in public interest journalism, which will help us reach new audiences and tell the stories that matter to young Australians on a scale that will have real impact.”

Launched in 2019, The Junkee Takeaway attracts a hard-to-reach youth audience by going beyond the headlines to give young Australians a deeper look at the stories and issues that matter to them – from politics and pop culture to science, sexuality and social justice issues. Each edition of The Junkee Takeaway runs for three to five minutes, and is hosted and produced by Elfy Scott and Claire Keenan.

In its first 200 episodes, The Junkee Takeaway attracted more than 200 million views on Facebook Watch, including more than 400,000 views in a single day.

The Junkee Takeaway will return to Facebook Watch in August this year.
