KFC Yum! Center Debuts Dynamic AV Renovation
In a less than six-month timeframe, the KFC Yum! Center has completely overhauled its audio-visual experience. The renovation debuted with the 2021-2022 University of Louisville basketball season.
The Louisville Arena Authority selected experience design and execution company ANC to launch the dynamic video renovation featuring 12,000 square feet of LED and a new centerhung scoreboard. The new multimedia displays will showcase the action on the court, in between basketball plays and on-stage during concerts, in grander fashion and at a significantly higher quality.
The arena’s new six-display centerhung screen, designed in concert with the Louisville Arena Authority and University of Louisville by Anthony James Partners, is three times larger than the arena’s original scoreboard; the new technology provides more than double the pixels of the previous display system resulting in clearer, higher resolution technology.
The HDR-capable centerhung features video screens with black packaging LED to provide the best possible contrast and color depth. The centerhung’s sideline screens measure 22’ high by 44’ wide; endline screens are 22’ high by 25’ wide. Each of the sideline and endline screens feature a 4mm pixel pitch, with the sideline displays offering a greater-than-HD viewing experience. The centerhung is completed with two underbelly displays that feature a fine-pitch 2.5mm display to provide courtside-seat patrons with an HD viewing experience as well. In total, the centerhung features 24,968,160 pixels.
In addition to the center-hung supplied by Lighthouse Technologies, the major renovation at the KFC YUM! Center includes new ribbon board and vomitory displays, suspended corner video screens, and an exterior marquee to offer fans more than 12,000 square feet of dynamic LED throughout the venue.
The renovation’s 42 new locations of LED vomitory displays, the courtside LED displays, 360-degree ribbon boards and the new centerhung are seamlessly synchronized and operated by ANC’s award-winning vSOFT™ operating system to create a fully immersive in-bowl experience. This commitment to a significant square footage of fine pitch LED displays ensures optimum experiences from every seat in the arena – experiences that rival in-home viewing and provide a tremendous return on investment for the renovation.
The all-new digital experience will significantly enhance the fan atmosphere and drive incremental revenue opportunities for the arena. The amenities will enhance the atmosphere of multiple events held at the facility including the University of Louisville basketball games, NCAA championship events, concerts, family shows and more.
These upgrades will also provide new opportunities for sponsors, as the project will create additional inventory for the KFC Yum! Center’s sponsorship team to build revenue in this category.
