Walgreens Co. Ends @CoolerScreens Rollout

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Walgreens has ended its Cooler Screens Inc. rollout that it first piloted back in 2018. Cooler Screens is not happy and they say has cost their business more than USD 200 million, according to the complaint Cooler Screens Inc. v. Walgreens Co., 2023CH05474, Illinois Circuit Court, Cook County (Chicago) filed last week.

Lawyers for Cooler Screens said “After visiting stores in which Smart Doors had been installed, Walgreens CEO Roz Brewer decided that she did not like the way they looked, purportedly comparing the screens to ‘Vegas’ in a derogatory way,” and have alleged that Walgreens fabricated reasons to terminate the contract, including by citing safety defects with the Smart Doors “that didn’t really exist”.

Walgreens called the allegations “baseless and unfounded” in a statement.

Waiting for “Vegas” to join as a co-plaintiff for defamation. How we all wish what happened in Vegas would just stay there?
