San Francisco voters yesterday turned off the lights on the Proposition D initiative, which I reported on last month. Fifty four percent of voters rejected the proposition, but also only 15% of the city’s registered voters even bothered to turn up to cast their vote.
This was a bold initiative that would have transformed a beleagured section of the city that most people tend to avoid after sunset. Executed correctly and with the right content it could have been a transformative measure for a small section of Market Street and would, without a doubt, have made both residents and tourists feel a little more comfortable venturing there after dark.
Hopefully, they’ll resurrect it for another day and maybe next time do a far better job on the PR front.
