#ScreenMediaExpo – Augmented Reality
Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief
Another #ScreenMediaExpo presentation we are looking forward to is on Day 2 Channel 2: Futurology 1030-1100 titled ‘Augmented Reality: Beyond Labels‘ to be given by Ivan Franco, Research & Development Director at YDreams.
Last year of course Augmented Reality (AR) was widely hyped as the next big thing in information technology. Most of the applications we’ve seen so far are simply using the superimposition of data labels, in order to drive what some call the ‘Contextual Internet’.
This presentation however asks about rich media? During the last eight years YDreams has been developing what many say is groundbreaking AR technology that will allow people to interact directly within movies, manipulate 3D structures or drive a virtual a car in a real-time sports event.
All of these great applications will depend on a number of technology and design capabilities but as computing moves to the cloud, these capabilities will eventually become platform independent and allow rich experiences to be processed through thin clients.
Ivan’s talk explores this issue and proposes a new vision for interactivity using AR. It’s probably one NOT to be missed!

Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, nice red uniforms and an ability to use PhotoShop – Oh damn!
