XpanD, Los Angeles-based developer of active 3D technology systems for cinema, television and gaming applications, recently helped Discovery Communications showcase its new 24-hour 3D channel venture at presentations to advertisers in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.
XpanD supplied more than 1,300 active glasses and 3D setups for use at the events, which conclude with a breathtaking display of the future of the company’s 3D service. Blu Laser Digital LLC, with offices in Gilbert, Arizona and Hollywood, California, is providing production services for each event.
“XpanD’s technology provides our presentation attendees with the optimal viewing experience for the ‘sneak peek’ look at the first 24/7 3D network, coming in 2011,” says David Shackley, senior vice-president of creative, Discovery Communications.
Discovery Communications announced in January plans to establish the first 24/7 dedicated 3D television network in the U.S., in partnership with Sony and IMAX.
XpanD’s 3D glasses allow each eye to individually focus on the overlapping visuals on the television. The unnoticeable alternating coverage of each eye results in the viewers’ 3D perspective.
