Nespresso Fixture, Selfridges, London
Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief
It’s not quite a Clover coffee machine but we just love the Nespresso capsule coffee machines we have at home and in the office. When in London we regularly stock up on capsules at Selfridges, Harrods or Nespresso’s very own brand store in Knightsbridge.
In Selfridges on our visit on Friday last we noticed these new pieces of ‘retail furniture’ in the Nespresso concession area.
They were certainly built well and had the nice glossy finish of many Nespresso machines but it was disappointing to see a rather small LCD screen (a) take up very little of the space available, (b) be placed in landscape mode and (c) play out old Nespresso TV commercials.
It’s a poor job if all Nespresso can do with their ‘Marketing At Retail’ is re-gurgitate and re-show old Tv commercials and infomercials.
This is not the first time that we have seen a really good brand, who most probably in all other areas protects its brand with the utmost intensity let itself down with its retail digital offering – see the Tag Heuer window displays we discussed a while back.

It drives me crazy sometimes that so many buyers only ever think about buying screens, and still don’t get it that (10 years after many of us coined the phrase), Content Is King. You’d be amazed how many people I speak to who want the latest greatest big shiny screen but won’t spend the same amount of money on the content to go on it.
