Sidetrack at Heathrow Express
Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief
I previously suggested in a blog post that the XTP technology that CBS Outdoor is playing with on the London Underground might have been Sidetrack technology.
It appears that this is not the case but I have just spent some time looking at the Sidetrack installation on London’s Heathrow Express.
The Sidetrack system plays the images to the passengers while they travel from one station to the next – i.e. on the walls of the tunnel while the train is moving!
This is a printed poster system where the pictures are lit in synchronization with the train to create the animation effect.
Sidetrack are however just now installing their first digital LED display using this technology. It’s going to be live in about 4 to 6 weeks and I am looking forward to being able to report on that fully with some pictures as well.
The system works in the same was as Sidetrack’s existing technology but they are creating the images with several LED bars instead of printed posters – therefore the content can be changed/programmed as it is with any digital billboard.
That means that eventually Sidetrack displays can be networked with other displays like the XTP or the escalator screens, etc.
