The SHOWWX™ Laser Pico Projector
Remember when we wrote “Chris Riegel, CEO of STRATACACHE believes that the new 3M Pico pocket-sized projectors will have a profound affect on the Digital Signage Market” in our post ‘Tiny Projectors To Kill LCDs?‘ back in October 2009 AND touched upon the subject of Pico (ie very small) projector designs again after attending the ‘Projection Summit 2010’ in Vegas back in June.
So nice to see this below (brought to our attention by the ever vigilant Jason Cremins via his signagelive twitter) (it also has a fun look at the ‘history’ of projection)…
It’s worth repeating what was said and what we reported at the Projection Summit 2010 – this emerging technology is moving pretty rapidly, and thumbnail-sized prototypes are already out there just waiting to be built into mobile phones, to bring small scale anywhere projection to the masses. Commercial applications will also be plentiful, such as small personal table top displays and short throw projection in retail spaces.

We purchased the first version of these last year and we were not impressed. I am interested to see this version live, but I don’t think this will change things at all for the future in terms of LCD.

I have seen the ShowWx in action and it is getting all of these reviews but I was very underwhelmed with the product. I purchased a pico projector that was almost identical to the Showwx (same capabilities and size) for half the price. If I was looking for more frills I would have spent more but I use it primarily for business. The Ray I bought was $200, I’m pretty sure that is half of what they are asking for the Microvision (around $400-$450)

Rumours are that several of the phone manufactures are looking at the integration of laser projection technology in future devices. Now that really would be a great assisted point of sale device for our industry to work with.
