Improving Coffee Sales

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

A relatively novel solution to increasing sales at point of purchase and prolonging dwell time was introduced at the EuroShop global retail trade fair in Dusseldorf, Germany by dimedis GmbH of Cologne in partnership with Cup&Cino, a market leader in coffee systems this week.

The concept is interesting. Cup&Cino supply end to end solutions and systems for coffee from machines to coffee, even going as far as a shop within a shop concept.

We are told that after a detailed review of digital signage platforms, Cup&Cino chose kompas, the award winning digital signage solution from industry veteran dimedis GmbH.

The shop in a shop solution includes the shopfitting, coffee machines, custom developed content, screen, PC and the kompas software.

Centrally managed and displaying brand information, the network also offers the ability to locally input local news, advertising and weather using custom designed templates. Interactive barcode scanning allows for targeted messaging depending on the items purchased. Already active in Europe, The Middle East and Asia Cup&Cino see the addition of digital signage to be as integral as their Swiss roasting plant is for the coffee beans. According to stand visitors (including the dimedis team) the coffee and it’s multiple varieties was top notch.

dimedis CEO, Wilhelm Halling told us “that we expect significant licence growth with this unique approach to coffee system marketing both in Europe and internationally”.

The solution starts deployment immediately.

I think it’s very interesting that they’ve tried to take the digital signage concept out of the usual environments (train stations, large shopping malls) and placed it into smaller venues like a coffe shop (not stating here that Cup&Cino is a small enterprise).

We’ve just written an article about DOOH and SMEs and took the liberty to use some of the photos above to represent the link between the two.

Many thanks and keep up the good work!
