POPAI Award Winners 2011
Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief
Frankly there are far too many industry awards and very few, we believe, are actually that credible and few it would seem actually ever garner large numbers of entries (and don’t get me started on ‘judging criteria’).
Last night saw the POPAI UK and Northern Ireland Awards for 2011 and the two categories we would be interested in, seemingly only saw a handful of entries…
- Nick Gale’s Realisation won GOLD in the ‘Digital Media in Retail Network‘ category for their work with the Cineworld Network but as there was ‘No placing’ for SILVER and BRONZE (err, did anyone else enter?) and Nick Gale is head of POPAI Digital in the UK it is not an award I would have felt comfortable in awarding.
- Mood Media won GOLD in the ‘Digital Media in Retail Content’ category for New Look – ‘MicroTiles’ and Facebook Social Media Platform. The Marketing Store won SILVER for McDonald’s Happy Meal – Interactive Digital Content and Mood Media won BRONZE also for Nuffield Health
Awards are only as good as the entries I suppose but the judges and / or the judging criteria need to be made clear. It’s hard to see how these four awards are representative of the best in retail and best in retail content in the UK and Ireland.

The best part of the awards last night was Berri Farley who entertained us with her soulful, bluesy voice…truly outstanding, wouldn’t go amiss on something like Jools Holland.

the bluesy voice on Jools Holland himself or Berri Farley on the Jools Holland TV show?
Just kidding. Our team saw Jools Holland and guests at the Henley Festival earlier this year and he was and is a fantastic entertainer.
