The Muppets Part Deux
Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief
We sort of inferred that we wouldn’t trust technology by Mood Media in our post ‘And Clear Channel France’s Choice Of Software Is…‘ and if proof were ever needed that a music company cannot be trusted to get many things correct when it comes to computing per se we had to ROFL when we received a new comment on the post “And Clear Channel France’s Choice Of Software Is…” late Tuesday as below…
Author : Chris Difford (IP: 81.252.233.129 , 129-233.252-81.static-ip.oleane.fr)

Comment:
As an ex-journalist I would say this is a really weird article… Mood Media is one of our competitors over here and not one of the least, having signed probably the biggest deals in the industry.Might not like them for all the biz they’re taking from us but I’d be curious to understand the basis of the slagging off… Not to mention the anti-french comments which one would usually find on the average small minded blogger.
as far as I’m concerned, it’s not poor journalism, it’s just poor and easy blogging.
Chris Difford† of course does NOT exist; goommedia.com is actually a Japanese site titled ‘Frame School of cash shopping’ (at least according to Google Translate ‘スクールオブショッピング枠現金化’) and the IP address 81.252.233.129 that the comment was sent from points straight back to the offices of Mood Media…

“Ooh la la la” as one might say 😉
†You may remember that Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook were the two composers/leaders of Squeeze…whose keyboard player (Jools Holland) went on to eclipse them

It’s perhaps mean to try and track down the author in the Mood Media offices but it should be kinda simple …
1. he / she speaks fluent English BUT is French (note the lack of capital on french)
2. if he / she knows Squeeze then he (whoops, it’s just bound to be a man) must be middle aged or later

I agree with my esteemed colleague Hercule Poirot that the writer is probably male (Squeeze never had sex appeal) and of a certain age.
The band was totally unknown outside of the UK, so that would suggest that the writer is either English after all, or a French ex-music journalist who might have unsuccessfully championed the band at the time. (he did say he was a former journalist)
The lack of capital F on French certainly points towards a French national!

We’re all agreed it’s a bloke. Given that Mood are predominantly a music company it’s less surprising that one would know about Squeeze me thinks.

This blog continues its fine tradition of bias, impetuousness, ignorance and unprofessionalism. I tip my beret.

It was the butler, with a lead pipe.

Is this a fair observation of journalistic ethics and standards? I wonder? Publishing sources IP addresses????? Come on Adrian, your abilities and standards should be much higher than this piece!

Dear Agneau, let me re-iterate what I’ve said on twitter – the dishonesty started with the Mood Media employee in his attempted comment on the site. That was pretty blatant and anyone who attempts that deserves to be called on it. DailyDOOH strives for honesty in this industry and whether people like our ‘opinion’ or not that is what drives us forward (and garners nearly 4,000 readers every day).
The NUJ code of conduct would support us fully I’m sure in documenting the fraudulent comment AND even though we know who the individual is – we haven’t named and shamed them (yet) have we?

Fair comment Adrian and well made!
