One of the juiciest bits of gossip we came across whilst in NYC last week was that Jeff Porter has left Scala.
Tom Nix didn’t feel fit to tell us this on the Monday of that week when we had breakfast, but anyhow, we now seemingly have another digital signage expert for hire.
Jeff’s new web site states “Need an expert to help you in digital signage? You’ve come to the right place. After 18+ years at Scala…I’m your ‘digital signage expert’ for hire. Whether your <sic> just starting out, or you’ve been plugging away for years…I can help you avoid those costly mistakes and get your network to bring you the promised ROI you’re looking for. Give me a call at 610-202-7676 or drop me an email to get started!”
PorterDigitalSignage can be found here.
Jeff Porter was put in the position President of SignChannel in Scala CEO Tom Nix’s first management reshuffle back in December 2011, but has held numerous management positions in the company, including a stint as CEO 2000 to 2002, before which he was VP Engineering.

I couldn’t think of a better person to help someone “avoid those costly mistakes” of using Scala.

Never read a website with so many I’m, I and me’s mentioned. Will Jeff team up with the greatly lamented Mike Fabian who was also a victim of the culling at Scala sometime ago?

Is this the only person who has left Scala this last week? Rumors are of at least two others in senior positions.

No one would dispute Jeff’s industry experience, but the advertised technical expertise would seem to be 18 years of one application that is currently in global decline. So will the answer always be Scala, or never be Scala? The web site has two links to Scala, but it sounds like an involuntary departure.

Jeff’s website reminds me of Joan Armatradings album from 1980: Me, Myself, I……..
