The projection industry doesn’t always receive the same amount of attention that the LCD industry receives, but this does not mean that activity is stagnant – far from it.
Insight Media‘s Chris Chinnock told us last week at #ISE2013 “We see the projection industry poised for some major changes in the next few years and the place to hear all about these changes and the impact they will have on professional and consumer markets is the upcoming Projection Summit.”
The 12th Projection Summit will be held on June 10th and 11th June, i.e. the two days prior to #InfoComm13 in Orlando this year.
Chris added “Manufacturers of projection components and technology, plus final systems for professional, commercial and home use are now invited to submit abstracts to present at this event. Projection Summit is THE place to discuss the trends, technology, markets and business aspects of the projection industry, so don t miss a chance to share your vision or technology with the leaders in the industry.”
In past Projection Summits, a lot has been said about solid state light sources and this topic will be covered again this year, but its impact is likely to be profound in 2013 and 2014. The industry is perhaps poised to begin a serious transition away from lamp-based projection to offer LED (already happening), hybrid and laser-based solutions covering the full range of light output.
That will likely reshape the competitiveness of projection in the coming years.
Other technologies are maturing rapidly as well: 3D, wireless connectivity, blending and warping, interactivity etc.
All these factors will create new products, reshape exiting markets and maybe create new markets for projection system that incorporate these technologies.
Preliminary topics for Projection Summit 2013 are listed below and these should be used a guide for submitting abstracts for evaluation.
- Trends in ProAV markets like education, digital signage, broadcast, rental and staging, visualization, control rooms, digital cinema and others
- Projection vs. Flat Panels
- Trends in projection manufacturing
- Projection industry business practices and strategies
- Advancements in projection component technology like optics, LEDs, lasers, lamps, modules, and other components
- Advancements in short-throw projection
- Projection technology for near-to-eye and heads-up display applications
- LED, laser and hybrid projection systems
- Embedded projector products
- 3D projection products and related ecosystem components
- Using handheld devices to interact with projection systems
- Wireless connectivity
- Trends in gesture, pen and other projector user interfaces
- Blending, warping and geometry calibration
- Novel projection devices, solutions or screen technology
- Electronics for projection systems
- Metrology of projectors
- 4K and beyond projector trends
- Market trends and analysis
Interested parties may submit abstracts for consideration for Projection Summit 2013 speaking opportunities until 1st March. The emphasis of presentations should be on how new technologies and market trends will impact the big screen consumer and professional display market.
