#dse2013 This Is The Fast Lane, Folks

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Whilst, next Saturday, we will be at the back of the plane en route to Los Angeles, thanks to all of our accumulated mileage in the past six months we will be, before the flight at least, scoffing at the trough with First Class passengers, in the Galleries First lounge at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5.

And as if by magic...

And as if by magic…

When we get to Los Angeles, we immediately head to Vegas by car – my fellow passengers will no doubt be urging me on, “Faster, Faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death” but should still, hopefully arrive in Lost Wages in one piece by early evening.

We are driving again this time as, at the end of #dse2013 we have a couple of meetings back in Irvine, CA in preparation for our next Bluebook – as it is entitled ‘Das Pixel und die Pixel-Maschine‘ there’s probably no surprise that it will detail our recent #ISE2013 project on how we used Scala and Hiperwall to create a huge 13K display using NEC screens, each with its own OPS device in the back.

In terms of #dse2013 itself, it’s been well documented elsewhere that the event is now in its tenth year and is simply getting stronger and stronger. It’s seen off all competition (both in North America and in Europe) to be the undisputed world champion of digital signage events AND whilst we still have some concerns about the number of conference / presentation sessions around the show (last week we counted 129 separate events that folks can sign up to) the week in Las Vegas is on everyone’s calendar and one of the highlights of the year for sure.

Real Digital Media’s Ken Goldberg wrote last week ‘Seven Reasons Why DSE Matters‘ so there’s little point in us repeating those here though we’d add a few of our own…

  1. DSE Apex Awards. Whilst we are definitely NOT a fan of exhibitions doing their own Award ceremonies. many of our readers appreciate and look forward to the DSE Apex Awards
  2. DOOH Insights: Volume 1 DSE Special Edition. The organisers of DSE have been very supportive of our own publishing efforts – especially with our attempts to up the ante and be much more professional with giveaways that can help push the industry forward. At #dse2013 this time then, every conference attendee will get a free copy of our DSE Special Edition of ‘DOOH Insights: 2008 to 2012 Volume 1’. The Digital Signage Federation will also have copied available, exclusively in their booth #1607.
  3. Buyers. Whilst all the conferences, networking, dinners, award ceremonies, Vegas shows, mixers (special mention to Dave Haynes and his Preset Group who have done a truly superb job building their pre-conference mixer up to what it is now), etc. are all great during the week, each exhibitor spends a small fortune at #dse2013 to meet potential buyers. DSE has proven time and time again that it’s not just tire kickers and channel partners who go to Las Vegas. Real business gets done at this show.
