Yet another university – this time, Tulane University in New Orleans – will add a new video display system that will be designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, South Dakota.

In speaking of the new scoreboard’s capabilities, Jim Alty, vice-president of facilities management and campus development at Tulane, says, “The scoreboard should not only provide state-of-the-art viewing for fans, but also enhance other events planned for Yulman Stadium.”

The main video display located in the south end zone will feature a 15HD pixel layout and will measure approximately 20’ high by 95’ wide. It will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility while providing multiple levels of protection from the elements.

The display contains all the versatility expected of today’s technology. It is capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays, and can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements.

The installation also includes two ribbon displays along the seating fascia that measure approximately 4’ high by 128’ wide and another ribbon display measuring approximately 4’ high by 25’ wide. All ribbon displays feature 20 millimeter line spacing and provide the opportunity to showcase sponsors throughout events and provide up-to-the-minute statistics and game information. The smaller ribbon display will be focused on providing closed captioning for every game.

To aid in controlling these new displays, Daktronics will also be including its powerful, easy-to-use Show Control System with this installation. This system provides a combination of display control software, video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a user-friendly production solution.

In addition to the equipment installation, Tulane University will also receive a bank of hours for the creation of digital content to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services. This content will consist of any mixture of sponsorship messages, crowd prompts, headshots, game opens and venue announcements at the university’s request.

The Tulane University Green Wave football team will join the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2014, and competes as part of the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision. The 2014 season will be Tulane’s 120th year of playing football and will mark a milestone in the history of the program with its return to campus to the new state-of-the-art, Yulman Stadium, a venue with a capacity of 30,000.
