Tom Goddard, executive deputy chairman of Amscreen, Non Executive Chairman of Ocean Outdoor, Executive Chairman of Digicom and Executive Chairman of Adlux, told The DailyDOOH Media Summit audience in London last week, that packaging Out-of-Home and Digital Out-of-Home together is holding DOOH back.
“DOOH would rediscover itself if seen as a stand-alone entity,” said Goddard, who also suggested that the industry should have its own trade body.
There has been a rumour of a new ‘trade body’ or ‘industry association’ for several months now. The most likely to join would be those networks with a pure (or almost ‘all’) digital offering; Amscreen, Adlux, Ocean Outdoor (all companies that Tom is linked with of course) for example.
However, we’d expect (and this is just pure speculation) that if and when there is an announcement; folks like ECNLive, EYE Airports and maybe even some of the digital divisions of the larger traditional OOH people could also possibly be involved.
It is our understanding that a new trade body would not be setup in competition with any existing association – there is no reason why they cannot co-exist – with this new one (should it be announced) focussing on ‘screens’.
