Cows At Glastonbury Get Wi-Fi

Back in 2012 it was homeless people being used as Wi-Fi hotpots (at SXSW in Austin, TX and that created a bit of a storm) but this year it’s Cows – not real ones unfortunately (that would have been kind of fun) but lifesize fibreglass ones!
EE, the technology partner of Glastonbury has installed a (temporary) 4G network on the 1,200-acre site and is offering Wi-Fi for free thanks to said cows. The cows have been ‘decorated’ by festival artist Hank Kruger.
Spencer McHugh, director of brand at EE, said: “Staying connected has become an essential part of any festival-goer’s experience and we are thrilled to be back supporting Glastonbury Festival, helping to ensure those on site have the best possible experience … we wanted to have some fun this year while providing a much-needed service.”.
Hank Kruger said: “It’s not the first cow I’ve ever painted but it’s certainly the most high-tech. We’ve loved bringing these 4G beasts to life and I think they look brilliant. My team and I have even named them: Dolly, Daisy and Molly seemed the perfect fit to me.”
Contactless payment is also the order of the festival – EE customers are able to pay for items up to GBP 20 with a mobile phone – there being more than 100 card readers in most of the bars.
