Two More Universities Choose @Daktronics

If it seems to you as if every U.S. university has contracted Daktronics Inc. for new signage for their football fields, hockey arenas, basketball courts, or baseball fields, it’s beginning to feel like that to us, too.

daktronics_u_nevadaThe latest we’ve heard of are the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas.

Sam Boyd Stadium and the University of Nevada’s Las Vegas Rebels
will be ready for football season this upcoming September with their new LED video display from Daktronics. Recently installed in Las Vegas, the display will offer a new experience for UNLV players and fans.

Mike Newcomb, Sam Boyd Stadium executive director says, “The new board is double the size of the old board and will make a huge difference for the fan experience at UNLV football games and all of the other events held at Sam Boyd Stadium.”

The new display measures approximately 21’ high by 48’ wide and features a 15HD pixel layout. Capabilities of the display include highlighting live video and instant replays. Like most Daktronics boards for universities, the display can be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics and sponsor advertisements.

“We appreciated the opportunity to continue our long standing relationship with UNLV,” says Mark Johnson, Daktronics regional sales manager. “This new installation will add to the game-day experience for all fans.”

Sam Boyd stadium stadium can seat more than 40,000 fans and hosts both football and other entertainment events. The venue is located seven miles from UNLV campus.

The Ichabods will experience a new video display and audio system designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics. The installation will be complete in time for the Ichabod football team’s season opener on Sept. 4 in Topeka, Kansas.

“To add a video board will certainly enhance the game-day experience for our fans and student athletes,”
says Loren Ferré, Washburn athletic director. “To work with a quality company like Daktronics we know we will have state-of-the-art equipment and we are excited about all the new opportunities this board will provide. We would like to thank our advertisers who stepped up and made this happen.”

The main outdoor display will measure approximately 19’ high by 40’ wide and will feature a 15HD pixel layout. And like others, the display can show one large image to highlight video or break up into separate sections to show vivid graphics and animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information, and sponsor advertisements.

“I think the new video board is a fantastic addition to Yager Stadium,” says Tim Collins, Ichabod head soccer coach said. “It enhances the experience for fans, shows the commitment to excellence the athletics department holds dear and will allow our student athletes to further their own playing experience at Washburn.”

A Sportsound 1500 audio system, which will be integrated with the video and scoring system, will also be added to the stadium, replacing the current speakers which are attached to the Bianchinno Pavilion. The system provides full-range sound reproduction and delivers clear and intelligible speech. The SS1500 will provide a powerful audio experience for the fans.

“Right now we have outstanding facilities and the ability to make an improvement with the scoreboard and to make it part of the entertainment of the game is very big,” says Craig Schurig, Ichabod head football coach. “It will add another dimension to the fan atmosphere with music, video and everything. With the conference that we’re in, you have to keep pace. We’re already in the higher echelon of Division II, but we want to have facilities that will rival the Division I schools, and this will put us there.”

Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl was built in 1928 and can seat over 7,200 fans. Yager Stadium is home to Ichabods’ football and women’s soccer.
