Let’s be honest, we could have got a whole bunch of different prats to come and lecture the out of home world on mobile but really, they (said ‘prats’) would have had no credibility with our audience and to be brutal-to-frank would have passed on little or no useful knowledge.
So it was then, with much delight, that we managed to persuade Nigel Clarkson, an old and good friend to the out of home industry, to come and speak at The DailyDOOH Media Summit earlier this year…
In his own words,“Mobile can be the glue that connects all media channels.”
The theme of Nigel’s presentation was to discuss the various ways in which mobile and digital out of home can work together. “I love Out of Home. I love Mobile – the synergy between the two is obvious” he declared, and then went to to discuss how to turn something that sounds like it makes sense into a reality for agencies and clients, using mobile to support and complement DOOH.
Nigel Clarkson joined Weve in November 2013 as the company’s Commercial Director – he joined with extensive experience in the media industry working across outdoor, radio and online and has a background in sales and marketing. Nigel’s focus is introducing and keeping Weve top of mind in the media community and developing long term commercial partnerships with brands and merchants across a host of media marketing and commerce services.
Note: The DailyDOOH Media Summit video highlights ‘package’ is almost at an end as we lead into The DailyDOOH Investor Conference. The last Friday post featuring one of the 30-minute presentations is up next week and will feature Exterion Media’s Shaun Gregory (who just coincidentally is speaking in New York at our event on Wednesday October 22, 2014 AND who will be keynoting The DailyDOOH Media Summit, May 19, 2015 in London next year!

It has been a tradition for the last six years† that we always post our look back on some of the best that the year had to offer sometime between Christmas and the New Year – that will be the same this year BUT as volume 3 of our latest book DOOH INSIGHTS: 2014 | The Best of 2014 (And Another Year of Executive Thought) has seen an unprecedented circulation (thanks in part to Brightmove Media, BroadSign, GPM360 and Ocean Outdoor) we figured the cat was already out of the bag with who / what we think has been the highlights of the year that we may as well list them here online…
This list, in no particular order, was compiled along with all of our contributors and like all ‘best of’ rankings, it is in no way scientific.
You will still have to get a copy of the book (which you can do next at all of the events during New York Digital Signage Week) to read the entries in more detail.
Here’s the #PlayWithOurPixels hashtag analysis for the last 30 days.

UK consumers fear that technology is overtaking their lives, with many increasingly concerned about the pace of change they face, according to the latest survey by KPMG LLP.
Results also highlight discomfort with the greater surveillance of everyday life and a cynicism about the need for connected devices.
KPMG surveyed over 1,600 consumers across the UK to identify attitudes towards the ‘Internet of Things’ – the term used to describe devices which ‘speak’ to each other over the Internet. It aimed to gauge their views around intrusiveness, security and the value of connected devices.

Microspace Communications, Raleigh, North Carolina, has announced several new managed network solutions aimed directly at digital signage networks.
First, within the VELOCITY CellCast service, it has introduced a no-capital expenditure wireless solution for large, medium or small signage networks. Microspace’s no-cap offer allows companies to upgrade and lease a wide range of products without having to buy more equipment.
While delivering dedicated bandwidth for content delivery and now a no cap-ex hardware option, Microspace also expands how CellCast is managed in the following ways:
In addition to signage, CellCast can also be configured and sold as a parallel network supporting failover system for retail Point-of–Sale transactions. This added value to current signage operators and integrators provides a secure link with an enterprise grade router to protect customer’s information.
“CellCast is the perfect solution for retail locations that require digital signage connectivity,” says Curt Tilly, director of enterprise media, Microspace. “A single CellCast router provides a fully managed wireless and Wi-Fi environment that keeps signage content off the end customer’s network, which is becoming an important issue with recent retail network security scares.”
