Rumoured New Venue for 2019 #VideoEverywhereSummit

February 21st, 2019

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

If you know where to look, or who to talk to, then you may know that the date for New York Digital Signage week is a little earlier than usual. This year #NYDSW takes place October 14-18, 2019, hence missing Halloween and many people’s school half-terms but more importantly allowing the DPAA’s #VideoEverywhereSummit to once again be front and centre of the week.

We know that the DPAA has, for some time now, been furiously looking for a larger space in which to hold their prestigious annual get-together. Truth be told, the Video Everywhere Summit probably outgrew the Roosevelt Hotel a few years ago and the rumour is that they will announce a bigger, shinier, new venue sometime next week.

What we do know is that the DPAA Video Everywhere Summit will be held on Tuesday October 15 somewhere in midtown Manhattan, that the DailyDOOH Investor Conference will take place on Wednesday October 16, that AdTECH: OOH – New York will take place on Thursday October 17, 2019 and if that wasn’t enough, then another thirty or so events will be scheduled by others that week as well.

In 2018, 32 events took place and 108 speakers and 4,600 attendees participated in New York Digital Signage Week.

Jodie Kidd Opens VIN + OMI London Fashion Week Show

February 20th, 2019

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

The model Jodie Kidd opened a spectacular VIN + OMI London Fashion Week show on London’s iconic Piccadilly Lights. Highlights from Planet Rewind, VIN + OMI’s sensational London Fashion Week show were broadcast across Ocean’s Grid network and on the Piccadilly Lights earlier this week.

The footage featured the model Jodie Kidd, making her return to the catwalk after a 10 year hiatus, wearing a floral dress made from salvaged plastic. Filming took place during the eco-label’s London Fashion Week show at the London Andaz Hotel.

The artistic London Fashion Week show also featured fish shaped bags and belts made from Ocean’s upcycled vinyl advertising panels.

Outdoor media owner Ocean recently agreed a long term partnership with VIN + OMI to create a new limited edition label. Its repurposed vinyl ads will be turned into a retail line to raise funds for the Marine Conservation Society.

VIN + OMI is the world’s only 100 percent zero-waste concept label which produces textiles which are all connected to social impact projects.

Supporting the need for sustainable fashion, UK MPs this week suggested fashion companies should receive financial incentives to produce more environmentally friendly clothes by creating less water and air pollution and contributing less to greenhouse gases.

Australian #OOH Announces Double Digit 2018 Growth

February 20th, 2019

Tristan Cotterill

The Australian Out of Home industry has just announced an increase of 10.8% on net media revenue for 2018, reporting $927.2 million, up from $837.1 million for 2017.

Charmaine Moldrich, CEO, OMA told us “We are thrilled to mark industry growth for the ninth consecutive year, demonstrating that advertisers and agencies trust in OOH’s increasing ability to connect brands with our growing audience”.

Digital OOH revenue accounts for 52.3% of total net media revenue year-to-date, an increase over the recorded 47.3% for the same period last year.

Q4 2018 saw an increase of 9.8% on net media revenue year-on-year, posting $277.5 million, up from $252.8 million for quarter four 2017.

This release marks the start of a change in how the OMA reports its revenue numbers. This is due to recent changes in ownership in the OOH industry which may trigger compliance issues for the OMA’s ASX-listed members.

Charmaine Moldrich said “The OMA will make two additional market announcements following the release of results by listed members to the public. These announcements will be made twice-yearly after half and full year results are announced and will include the category breakdowns. Reporting as we did previously, opens the possibility for the market to interpret individual company performance prior to it being announced publicly”.

The OMA will make four quarterly announcements of total aggregated industry data, including the proportion of digital revenue. In these releases there will be no category breakdowns reported.
