Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Barco has introduced a new addition to its LCD video wall platform, UniSee Present is a media-focused, content-management offering for Barco’s newest generation of large video walls (we also understand that it will work with other enterprise video walls).

Inez Schoels, Go To Market Manager at Barco, said “By introducing UniSee Present, we complete our Barco UniSee portfolio and can offer a comprehensive, user-friendly and easy-to-install video wall experience. Getting content on a wall is now within everybody’s reach, using a familiar Windows-based environment. This is extremely important for many applications, including lobbies, retail stores, shopping malls, restaurants, bars, trade shows, and entertainment ventures.”

It would appear that UniSee Present complements the current Barco UniSee platform; UniSee View (the unique bezel-less display with unmatched uniformity), UniSee Mount (the innovative mounting structure) and UniSee Connect (described as a revolutionary cloud management system).

This new software offering is designed to drive Barco’s newest generation of LCD video walls and supports both small and medium-sized walls (up to 16 HD panels). State-of-the-art image switching and processing makes sure that users can display pixel-perfect images, offering a premium video wall experience with amazing ease-of-use.

Based on Windows 10, UniSee Present offers users a familiar and user-friendly interface for corporate IT managers and video wall resellers. Anyone can simply start working with it, so there is no training required. Most popular media file formats like videos (MPEG, etc.) and photos (JPEG, GIF, etc.), can be displayed with ultimate flexibility. This also includes most commonly used Microsoft Office applications—like PowerPoint slides and Excel sheets—and web pages via Chrome, all in a borderless way for the ultimate video wall experience. Additionally, using an external frame grabber allows for multiple external sources to be easily connected via HDMI and displayed on the video wall.

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

“Ask me a question and hopefully I can make you smile” is the question that Gemma, the PANDORA chatbot and love guru is asking shoppers at Westfield Stratford City in the lead up to Valentine’s Day.

This is all part of an exciting experiential and digital OOH campaign at the UK’s no.2 mall; an activity that will champion PANDORA as a leading gifting destination and promote their new Valentine’s collection.

Rosie Reeves, Brand Manager at PANDORA UK said “To raise awareness of our new Valentine’s collection, we wanted to bring an immersive brand experience to shoppers. Gemma, our PANDORA chatbot, has been a huge success so we worked with Foundry, Flying Object and Venzo to develop a way of bringing her to life at Westfield Stratford City. We’re confident that by reimagining Gemma as the PANDORA love guru in this key shopping mall, utilising the digital screens and experiential space, we can successfully share a message of love.”

The campaign with the international jewellery brand was planned and booked through Foundry, JCDecaux’s newly launched inhouse creative agency.

Shoppers at Westfield Stratford City will benefit from Gemma’s love advice and recommendations from 8th – 10th February. Upon telling Gemma details such as gender and relationship status, the love guru will share her dating tips, chat-up lines and light-hearted jokes.

Dallas Wiles, Chief Commercial Officer at JCDecaux UK told us “Westfield Stratford City is the busiest shopping mall in the UK, providing an ideal channel for this branding and activation campaign in the lead up to Valentine’s Day. Combining experiential activity with the Westfield Stratford City digital channel will immerse shoppers in the PANDORA brand during this key retail period, with our recently upgraded premium digital 6-sheet portfolio driving footfall into stores.”

Foundry is a resource for all brands to tap into to support them in devising the most effective Out-of-Home creative, as well as a centre of excellent for creative consultation and development.

Nancy Fletcher, ‪@YourOAAA ‬President & CEO To Retire

February 4th, 2019

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

The Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) announced Monday that Nancy Fletcher, one of the longest serving leaders of a national trade association, will step down as president and CEO at the end of 2019. She has led the association for nearly three decades.

Bob Liodice, CEO of the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) said “Nancy Fletcher is revered in the advertising world,” said We all could take lessons from Nancy in forging industry unity, adapting to change, and advocating effectively.”

During her tenure, the US out of home advertising industry tripled revenues, underwent an unprecedented digital transformation, won in Congress (many times(, and transformed its image with advertisers and the public. While other traditional media have contracted, OOH advertising has grown, posting gains in each of the last 34 consecutive quarters.

Fletcher has led the OAAA since 1991, when the industry first won a major battle in Congress. The Senate rejected anti-billboard legislation 60-39. Former Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) describes her as, “smart, persuasive, and tough.”

In the last decade, Nancy guided and expanded industry partnerships to help law enforcement and emergency managers communicate with the public. The FBI says 57 fugitives have been apprehended as a direct result of billboard publicity. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has transmitted more than 2,000 AMBER Alerts to digital OOH formats to help locate missing children. And, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has worked with OAAA to post many emergency OOH messages.

Under her leadership, OAAA showcased classic American art (‘Art Everywhere’) and helped save endangered species (National Geographic’s ‘Photo Ark’), among many effective public service efforts. OAAA also launched sophisticated campaigns using OOH media assets to promote the growing industry, such as ‘Feel the Real’ in 2015 and ‘Get Out of Home’ in 2018.

Sean Reilly, CEO of Lamar Advertising Company and chairman of the trade association’s board of directors said “Over the last 28 years, my father, brother, and I have all served on the OAAA Board of Directors with Nancy at the helm. My dad always said, ‘Listen to Nancy.’ That was good advice for me, and the entire industry. Nancy has brought honor and distinction to our trade association and steered the industry through decades of innovation and growth.”

An attorney, Nancy began working for Naegele Outdoor Advertising in Minneapolis in 1978. She was Naegele’s president and general manager in the Twin Cities and general counsel to the holding company for Naegele’s national billboard operations. She began her career as a young lobbyist at the Minnesota state legislature. She serves on the board of the Ad Council, and among decades of community service, has been active in the leadership of the Washington National Cathedral and the National Cathedral School for Girls.

Nancy will be honored in May at the industry’s annual conference in Las Vegas. A search for a new president & CEO of OAAA is underway, led by Rafkin & Company.

New Christie MicroTiles LED Announced

February 3rd, 2019

Adrian J Cotterill, Editor-in-Chief

Nearly a decade after the game-changing launch of Christie MicroTiles and hundreds of great installations around the world, Christie has now launched Christie MicroTiles LED.

It’s described as smaller, brighter, more powerful, and more flexible. Christie MicroTiles LED makes its global debut at #ISE2019 this week in Amsterdam.

Delivering P3 colour space, fully compliant HDR-10 and patented software that keeps the wall calibrated at 97 percent or greater uniformity, Christie MicroTiles LED are suitable for broadcast sets, corporation venues, museums, retail, stadiums, arenas, and higher education. It includes a low profile ADA-compliant QuickMount™ system so displays can be created in any shape and size, including 90-degree inside/outside corners and both concave and convex curves.

Ted Romanowitz, senior product manager, Christie told us “Christie has been very successful with the MicroTiles brand – end customers and our integrators love it because it makes for an easy creative solution. With that in mind, Christie took everything great about MicroTiles and brought it to narrow pixel pitch LED”.

He added “In developing MicroTiles LED, Christie wanted to do something few, if any, have done – and we did. It puts Christie in a space where few can compete. The visuals are a lot more stunning on MicroTiles LED – and all in a cabinet-free tile with a depth the size of a tablet computer. There is no better technology than narrow pixel pitch LED because it’s about delivering amazing optical performance and stunning visuals that are jaw-dropping.”

The Christie MicroTiles LED proprietary QuickMount™ system eliminates alignment challenges typically associated with installing LED by using precisely-machined mounting sheets and wall anchors that can be easily installed onto nearly any surface. Once the laser cut sheet is mounted, the small size and light weight of the cabinet-free tiles reduces installation complexity while saving space and increasing flexibility. A single PoE Cat6 Ethernet cable is all that is required to connect each module to the entire display for a clean and simple cabling solution, dramatically reducing points of failure of typical LED cabinet design. With the click-n-go magnetic tiles, populating the display with LED tiles is incredibly fast.

There’s also an intuitive, easy-to-use web-based control interface which can be accessed from any connected device such as a laptop, tablet or mobile device. MicroTiles LED’s web user interface gives users complete command of display setup, control and management. And by adding Christie or third-party processing, media servers or content management solutions, customers benefit from a completely optimized workflow.

MicroTiles LED is also the first display technology with Christie Terra SDVoE integrated directly into the product.

Christie MicroTiles LED comes with a three-year parts and labour warranty, which is extendable to five years, and ships in late spring 2019.
